ART REFLECTIONS
A
note from the artist...
These images were created by
manipulating the shadows of close friends and family members
with multiple light sources. I was first interested in exploring
shadows because of their ability to distort forms, especially
the female form. When I have looked at my own body, I have often
felt like I am not feminine enough, so I enjoyed examining
distorted shadows and seeing beauty in the unique forms of my
loved ones. Whether female or male, we look for acceptance, and
I found, through this series, that in the end I looked only
towards the expressiveness of each “shadow-figure.” I am honored
to show these images in E-Quality because of CBE’s
gift-centered approach to leadership.

A
note from the editor...
When I look at these images, I am
amazed by the uniqueness of each of them. I see how Shalanah has
utilized the individual personalities of her models and, through
them, has created such distinctive and striking forms. I
understand this as such a beautiful illustration of the way God
designed us. He knit together our individual gifts and passions,
gave us the freedom to use them, and guides us so that we bring
Him the most glory. I hope that through these images you will be
encouraged to celebrate and use your uniqueness for the Lord.
